Experience

Yimi acts in inquests and inquiries, specialising in representing the family of the deceased. In March 2020 she led junior counsel, in a 2-week Article 2 inquest into the death of a prisoner at HMP Brixton at the Coroner’s Court for Inner South London.

She also acts in prison adjudications and parole board hearings.

Yimi also appears in the Family Court dealing with both private and public law cases including cases involving human trafficking, placement outside the jurisdiction and allegations of domestic violence as well as sexual abuse.

R v Eagles (S) [2021] EWCA Crim 1609 - Appeal against sentence allowed, an immediate custodial sentence of 20 months for making indecent photographs reduced to a suspended sentence of 20 months suspended for 1 year.

R v Umo & another [2020] EWCA Crim 284 - Convictions for possession of a firearm, ABH and common assault overturned by the Appellate Court.

R v Roja (M) [2018] EWCA Crim 2279 - Sentencing on dangerous driving.

R v Chapman (S) [2017] EWCA Crim 1743 - Leading case on whether Nitrous oxide is an exempted substance under the Psychoactive Substances Act 2016.

R v Forbes & Others [2016] EWCA Crim 1388 - Sentencing guidelines for historic sexual offences.

R v McCloud (B) [2011] EWCA Crim 2253 - Sentencing for sexual offences, the imposition and length of a SOPO.

R v PS - Central Criminal Court - Instructed as a led junior, in a 6-week trial defendant charge with the murder of her 2-year-old son. Defendant acquitted of murder.

R v MC - Preston CC - Instructed as a led junior, the defendant charged with murder 15 years after pleading guilty to the attempted murder of same victim.    

R v DV - Isleworth CC - Nurse charged with sexually assault 76-year-old patient is acquitted.

R v RR - Isleworth CC - 80-year-old defendant acquitted of 12 counts of historic sexual assaults against multiple complainants spanning a 45-year period following a 2- week trial.

R v SA - Woolwich CC - Defendant acquitted of 8 counts of sexual assaults having been accused of a campaign of sexual assaults in the Lewisham area following a trial that last 8 weeks altogether.

R v JU - Woolwich CC - Defendant acquitted of robbery, section 18 & 20, perverting the course of justice, possession of firearm with intent following a 4-week trial.

R v HC & others - Central Criminal Court - Led Junior in a 3-month trial where HC was one of 2 civilian police employee charged with conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office alongside the mother of a convicted murderer. He was accused of accessing the police intelligence database to discover the identity of an anonymised witness.  

R v JC & another - Central Criminal Court - Represented a boys-scout leader accused of a range of historic sexual offences which took place over 50 years ago spanning a period of 10 years at a catholic boy’s school, involving multiple complainants.

R v PN & another - Leeds Crown Court - PN acquitted of perverting the course of justice in an attempted murder trial involving rival gangs following a 3-week trial.

R v VD - Central Criminal Court - VD was accused of robbery involving £20,000 worth of jewellery. Crown offer no evidence following application to dismiss case as an abuse of process.

R v KC - Croydon Crown Court - KC acquitted of sexual assault even after previous conviction for sexual assault is disclosed to the Jury.

R v SB - Kingston Crown Court - D acquitted of arson in the face of overwhelming evidence including expert evidence excluding the possibility of any other culprit.

R v MD - Woolwich Crown Court - Successfully argued insanity in an allegation of child abduction. 

R v P - Basildon Crown Court - Represented a defendant involved in a £1.6 million confidence fraud
