Lady-Gené has extensive experience defending clients in serious and complex criminal cases, alone or as a led Junior. She regularly defends in dishonesty offences, drugs, violence, and knife crime. Her practice encompasses high-stakes cases including those involving sexual assaults against children and offences relating to the possession and distribution of indecent images. Lady-Gené's preparation is thorough and detailed.

Lady-Gené’s approachable manner enables her to build strong a rapport with clients. Having undertaken the Bar Council’s Vulnerable Witness Training, she is able to undertake witness handling of vulnerable witnesses and is skilled in defending vulnerable clients, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Personality Disorders and other complex needs.

Experience

Before coming to the Bar, Lady-Gené gained significant experience in the fields of international law, policy, immigration, and academia. She also worked at the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (The Khmer Rouge Tribunal), building her ability to deal with complex legal issues in high-profile cases.

Lady-Gené is fluent in both German and French, accepts public and private instructions and is a Grade 1 Prosecutor.

Notable Cases

R v N – Led Junior counsel. Representing a defendant on multiple counts of rape (ongoing).

R v T – Led Junior counsel. The defendant was charged with fraudulent trading. After a thorough review of the disclosure history, it became evident that the disclosure task had not been completed in this case. The prosecution offered no evidence.

R v S – Represented a defendant charged with attempted s. 20 GBH and threatening with a blade in a multi-handed trial. The defendant did not give evidence at trial. The defendant was acquitted of all counts.

R v T – Represented a defendant charged with possession of knives outside his ex-partner's home. The defendant was acquitted of both counts.

R v C – Represented a youth client tried alongside adult. The defendant was charged with robbery. Following a successful submission of no case to answer the jury were directed to return a verdict of not guilty.

R v L – Represented a defendant charged with attempted burglary. He had been stopped and searched close to the scene. Forensic examination of the defendant's clothing established a large number of glass fragments. The defendant was acquitted.

HSE v R – Represented a defendant charged as a contractor with contravening a health and safety regulation. His company was charged with the same offence. Following judicial direction, the jury formally returned a not guilty verdict in relation to the company.

R v H – Represented a defendant at her committal for sentence for possession of 1 kg of heroin with intent to supply. She received a suspended sentence.
